Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee is challenging the results of the Washington Republican caucus, saying that he is “just not sure” that the election in the state was fair.
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee is challenging the results of the Washington Republican caucus, saying that he is “just not sure” that the election in the state was fair.
Huckabee accused party officials of halting the vote with 87 percent of precincts reporting and Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) leading Huckabee by about 200 votes.
It was “outrageous” that the race was called at that point, the former governor said in an interview on MSNBC. According to the Washington state Republican Party website, all votes have still not been counted.
The party released a statement after 87 percent of the votes were in saying that McCain had won with 25.5 percent compared with Huckabee’s 23.7 percent.
“Congratulations to Sen. McCain for a hard-fought win, his second caucus victory in the 2008 presidential nomination process,” Washington state GOP Chairman Luke Esser said in a statement at the time. “And congratulations to Gov. Huckabee for his strong second-place finish.” |
