Cindy McCain said Friday that she was “angry” at The New York Times after the paper published a story in February suggesting the possibility of a romantic relationship between her husband, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), and a female lobbyist.
Cindy McCain said Friday that she was “angry” at The New York Times after the paper published a story in February suggesting the possibility of a romantic relationship between her husband, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), and a female lobbyist.
“I knew the truth,” Cindy McCain said in an interview with "Access Hollywood," which was shown on NBC’s Today Show. “I know my husband.”
The paper was slammed for the story, which was published shortly after it became clear that Sen. McCain would likely be his party’s presidential nominee. The article did not provide evidence of an affair but instead discussed how staffers of McCain’s 2000 presidential campaign were worried that he was involved with the lobbyist. Both the lobbyists and the senator denied that there had been an improper relationship.
“I think that’s the unfortunate side of politics,” Cindy McCain said. “And I think it’s also the unfortunate side, sometimes, of this 24-hour news cycle that we’re in now.”
However, she also noted that the family had “moved on.”
