Seeking to demonstrate Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) crossover appeal, his presidential campaign on Saturday released a list of 30 Democratic and independent supporters. Seeking to demonstrate Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) crossover appeal, his presidential campaign on Saturday released a list of 30 Democratic and independent supporters.

The list includes one of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s (D-N.Y.) elected delegates, Debra Bartoshevich of Wisconsin, and former Rep. Tim Penny of Minnesota.

Though the campaign describes them as “prominent,” only Penny, who ran for Minnesota governor in 2002 on the Independent Party ticket, has a national profile.

aOf the 30, five are current elected government officials. Many of the rest are former local and state government officials.

They have joined a group headed by Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) called Citizens for McCain.

Citizens for McCain is an organization within the McCain campaign for people who put country before political party and support the presidential candidate who has a proven record of bipartisanship,” Lieberman said in a statement.

McCain also held a “virtual town hall meeting” which was to include many former Clinton supporters.
